The Big Send Off: Sparklers!!

Ok, so in my mind it would look like that pic above, but in reality I know it probably will not. I had not put too much thought into how we would be sent off at the end of the reception. I figured we would have some flower petals or confetti. But, in thinking about it further I don't think we will be able to throw anything on the ground. Since the venue is a golf course I have to be very careful that we don't leave "evidence" from the wedding.

Friends of ours did a "wedding bell" send off. It was cute because they had a cute little saying on the tag with blue ribbon. I've seen bubbles, I liked it.

None of these ideas were really.....me.

Now...Fire, Lights, Dramatic picture opportunities......that's more me.

SparklersOnline has some great ideas on how to display the sparklers. They also sell longer sparklers that allow for more time for everyone to get theirs lit in time for pictures.

This could be a pretty easy DIY project. Perhaps purchasing them after 4th of July might lead to further discounts?

DIY: Centerpieces: Trial #1

My inspiration for my centerpieces comes from Ms. Martha Stewart. I love the shimmer of the ribbon. At first I considered painting terra cotta pots black, but they just didn't shine quite like I wanted.

I bought a tall clear vase and a few spools of ribbon from Dollar Tree Where everything is actually a dollar. So in total I spent like $3.

I used a hot glue gun to get the first piece of ribbon to stick to the vase. Then I wrapped the ribbon around and around and glued every now and then secure the ribbon.

I think next time I am going to try gluedots because the hot glue made the ribbon lumpy where I glued. I'm thinking gluedots will be "seen" less and easier to apply.

And Voila! You have my first attempt at a ribbon centerpiece! Please excuse the paper flower, it was so Greg could actually visualize what I was thinking color-wise.

I may try to find wider, fatter vases to wrap. I really like the ones Martha used in the inspiration picture. If I can get all the ribbon from Dollar Tree it won't be that expensive, but ribbon elsewhere is fairly pricey.

Baklava! Opa!

Oh Martha! I just love all of the creative little favor boxes she shows you how to make on her website.

I especially like these little green boxes with the pink paper flowers. I think we could make it work with white boxes and little black paper flowers or black boxes with white paper flowers.

The next step is to figure out what to put in the boxes. I want to do some sort of "edible" favor since I think that is what I would want to get.

Mexican Wedding Cookies

My first idea was Mexican wedding cookies. I have always loved them! We grew up making them and eating them. Plus I don't really have anything that represents the Hispanic part of my heritage since I wasn't too big on the Mariachi band idea my Auntie wanted. (Sorry auntie). My concerns are that I think they only taste good when they are really warm and fresh out of the oven and I have about 75 other things to be worried about a few days before the wedding than making cookies.

Baklava
My next idea is Baklava. I am partial to this idea for a few reasons.
1. You can make it ahead of time. I found once recipe that said you can make it weeks ahead of time, although I've only ever made it that early, only a few days.
2. This is something that Greg and I have made many times together. We work very well as a team on it and I get a good feeling when we make it. It's like "our" dessert. When you make it you have to work very quickly so the phyllo dough doesn't dry out, and it works best with two people.
Once I mentioned it to him, he was like "Yes! Love that idea. We can even put a little explanation on the box as why this is important to us."

So, that may be it! We may have just chosen our favors!

Anemo-what?

Here is some of my bouquet inspiration. Since I plan on DIYing the bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces I want to keep them simple, yet lovely and definitely real.

Anemone. One meaning is that it is used to signify anticipation. Well, that is certainly something I expect will occur on the big day. Oh yeah, AND they perfectly match my black and white wedding.

Ranunculus. I couldn't find a great meaning that I liked. I like how they have a lot of petals and would really "fill-out" a bouquet.

Here are some photos of anemones and ranunculus together.

Another option is garden roses. Some people like to use them instead of peonies because 1. they are cheaper and 2. they are hardier.

I may end up getting all three kinds of flowers and using them in various ways in the centerpieces. I plan on either ordering from Fiftyflowers or Whole Blossoms. I expect if we need more we may need to make a stop to a local flower shop to get more fillers, like white carnations or any other white flower I can find.
